# Export Reddit comments to CSV, JSON or Markdown — WebToSpark

Export the Reddit discussion content already loaded in your tab to local files. Use JSON for captured nested replies, CSV for spreadsheet rows, and Markdown for reading. This is a local exporter, not a Reddit-wide search engine or a complete-thread crawler.

## Page types

Subreddit and other post lists, plus individual /comments/ post discussions. The adapter recognizes modern and old Reddit markup.

## What can be retained

List titles, post links, authors, subreddit context and available metrics. Detail pages can add post body and loaded nested comments; fields differ between modern and old layouts.

All fields depend on what is present in the current page markup. Media is represented by source URLs, not downloaded image or video files.

## A practical capture workflow

1. Open a relevant post rather than relying only on its list preview.
2. Expand the comment branches you need yourself and wait for them to render.
3. Preview the post and comment count. Export JSON to retain relationships and Markdown to read the discussion.

## Read the limits with the file

The extension does not click More comments, change sort order or load additional branches. Collapsed, deleted or unloaded material may be absent. A visible score is not a measure of how common an opinion is.

Exports reflect loaded page content. The ordinary exporter does not scroll, paginate, expand replies, crawl links or fetch hidden data. Check the preview and extraction warnings before relying on a file.

Site redesigns can change extraction quality. Preview output and extraction warnings are more useful than assuming every live route has passed current manual QA.

## Continue with your exported files

Choose a format for the next task, then inspect the saved data locally before processing it. These guides explain structures, spreadsheet imports and practical limits.

## How to export Reddit comments

In CSV, filter record\_type=comment. record\_id, parent\_id and depth help identify captured reply relationships. In JSON, inspect comments and replies. These fields describe captured data; missing parents and empty bodies should be investigated against the page.

1. Open a Reddit post discussion, not just the listing card. Load and expand the comments you need manually.
2. Use the WebToSpark preview to check captured comments and warnings. Choose whether comments are included.
3. Choose JSON for nested replies, CSV for record rows, or Markdown to read the source. Save and wait for the completion result.
4. Open the file and spot-check the discussion. Review History before saving again; request a missing format or explicitly save another copy when needed.

FAQ

## A few things worth knowing.

[Frequently asked questions](/faq/)

Can WebToSpark search or recover deleted Reddit comments?+

No. It exports supported loaded page markup. It does not search Reddit-wide comment history, query archives, recover deleted text or bypass access restrictions.

Is a Reddit comment scraper the same as this extension?+

Automated scrapers can imply crawling, pagination or API access. The ordinary WebToSpark workflow exports currently loaded content and does not perform those actions. No live layout or complete-thread guarantee is made.

Can I download comment images, GIFs or videos?+

No media files are downloaded. The current Reddit comment extractor does not guarantee capture of image, GIF or video URLs either. Check the original discussion for comment media; this is not a Reddit media downloader.
