Page types

Front and list routes including news, newest, best, ask, show and jobs, plus item discussion pages.

What can be retained

Story titles, external links, ranks, points, authors, dates, discussion links and visible comment counts. Item pages can retain body text and loaded comments with depth and parent relationships.

All fields depend on what is present in the current page markup. Media is represented by source URLs, not downloaded image or video files.

A practical capture workflow

  1. Choose a list for discovery, then open the item discussion for the stories that matter.
  2. Load the discussion page you intend to capture; linked articles are separate sources.
  3. Export the list and selected discussion tabs. Use JSON for the comment tree and Markdown for review.

Read the limits with the file

An external article link is not the article body. The adapter does not follow More links or open collapsed discussions. Relative dates are kept raw where no reliable absolute timestamp is available.

Exports reflect loaded page content. The ordinary exporter does not scroll, paginate, expand replies, crawl links or fetch hidden data. Check the preview and extraction warnings before relying on a file.

Site redesigns can change extraction quality. Preview output and extraction warnings are more useful than assuming every live route has passed current manual QA.
